Just recently I have started working on a 2nd sales career to supplement my 9-5 job and almost immediately it is apparent that sales is the way to go. It is really one of the only ways to get wealthy.
No matter what type of company you are working for, in one way or another you are selling a product. Whether you sell annuities, own a bowling alley or sell water at the beach, you need to be able to sell. But after a couple months of sales, I unfortunately realized that there is a ceiling to the amount of money I can earn. Don't get me wrong, I am still going to keep my business going since it is profitable, but there is close to zero chance of me earning a million a year. There is even a low chance of me earning $200,000 a year.
Why?
The product isn't expensive enough. The product I sell pays commissions in the $200-$400 range and does have some residuals, but that is not enough to become wealthy.
I NEED TO HAVE A MILLION DOLLARS IN PRODUCTS FOR SALE.....
Although more expensive products might be a more difficult sale, it is really the only way to earn a million dollars.
Annuities, investments, airplanes, yachts, real estate, etc etc...
Sales are sales, so you might as well focus on the big numbers if you ever want to get rich.
